The Great Pumpkin Run

Last year's 5Ks were small, local events, so it was a shock to my system to participate in a race with ~2000 people!

The Great Pumpkin Run was held about an hour away from my house in Thorntown on Dull's Tree Farm & Pumpkin Patch. Austin and I left the house around 7:30 Saturday morning. He was a great copilot so that I didn't have to look at my phone to know the next turn! Even with the waves going every 10 minutes starting at 9 the line of cars was long to get into the farm. I got checked in, added the race shirt as a layer, and gave Austin my jacket and keys. My water bottle, phone, and tablet were in the bag that I carried the whole time.

Participants stretched a little before the wave began, led by someone local (never caught her name or organization). Then it was time to go. The wind was ripping through the farm keeping it chilly. It was difficult for me to walk along the path they'd made with corn stalks or gravel throughout most of the course. The instability kept me slower than I wanted not wanting to risk my ankles giving out. I reached the halfway point in a little less than 30 minutes. There was a water station along the northern part of the route.

The lake was a nice bonus to see but I thought that it was weird that it was located on a stretch of land with a no trespassing sign along the way. The last section of the race was through part of the cornfield.

They handed out water, a banana, and our finishing medals as we crossed the finish line. I'd told Austin that I'd call him once I was done but he'd found his way to the finish line and met me there. We walked to the other side and picked up a cup of cider and a small Pumpkin (I let Austin pick it out).

Race participants were allowed into the farm activities for free but we had to pay for our guests. We looked around briefly then went back to the cornfield to explore the maze. I would NOT have done the maze had Austin not been there as I'd have been completely lost! The pumpkin went into my bag while my tablet was in my hand as we walked through it.

Screenshot of the maze from Dull's website
We took a break and rode the wagon back to the barn instead of walking. We each got a cookie from completing the maze. Austin also got a chocolate waffle on a stick while I ate pulled pork nachos. We sat on the hill to watch the 1 pm Pumpkin launch. They have one powerful cannon shooting the van hourly!

We headed back home after that. Austin had fun and said that it was a good day. It was until a tire blew about 11 minutes from home. While waiting for the tow truck the car battery also died. I told the driver this so he could load the car properly. Benny showed up just as we were pulling away so he followed us to the tire shop. They charged $57 for the tire! Benny had to go find a bank because they were both cash only but he'd gotten lost and took forever to return. It took two vehicles hooked up to my car with jumper cables a while to finally get it started again.

If it wasn't for the car trouble Saturday would have been a perfect day with Austin.  I don't hear him having much fun anymore since Benny never seems to want to go anywhere.  Now that I found something new Austin enjoys I need to find more mazes for us to visit!

Color Dash Recap and a Giveaway

I weighed in Tuesday exactly the same as last week; I just wish it was back down in my goal window.  On the plus side my bikini arrived Friday!  I just need to have the top tightened somehow as it's too loose LOL  I have no plans to go anywhere with this bikini; it's just for me!  What things do you have or do that are just for you?

Week of Workouts

SATURDAY I managed to get Burn Intervals and Ab Burner in before heading out to the Brookside Bash Color Dash.  This map is from the race site.

I knew it was through the park but what I didn't realize was that there were so many hills!

This is what MapMyWalk recorded so it appears they changed the route a little.

I essentially wore 4 layers up top for the race...yet somehow the colors went all the way through.  I had a huge stripe across my abdomen, just below my bra.  There was a huge patch on my left side that looked like a bruise from the colors collecting there.  How in the world did that happen?  The Sara Lee shirt was tucked into my shorts.  The Dash shirt was over the shorts so I could get to my flipbelt for the phone.

OK, back to the regular workouts....

SUNDAY was Burn It Off! and Recharge.
MONDAY I wrapped up the Burn phase with Burn Circuit 2
TUESDAY was an active rest day with Yoga.
WEDNESDAY I began the Push phase with Push Circuit 2.
THURSDAY was Push Circuit 1.

Fish Oil Review & Giveaway

I was given a bottle of Pro Star Health Omega 3 Fish Oil for free in exchange for my review.  If you recall, the last fish oil we tried was 1400 mg but with this one we're back to only 1000 mg (and giving Benny 3 pills).  These are the standard size (that I've seen) of about an inch long softgels.  When I first opened the bottle I immediately smelled a fishy odor that I hadn't detected with any of the other fish oils.  Thankfully the smell was just captured in the bottle and not in the softgels themselves.  The odor is the only thing that comes to mind distinguishing this fish oil from any other.

4 for Friday

Tuesday I weighed in down a pound but I'm still 1.6 lbs above the weight range.  Then TOM settles in early so I don't think next week will be any better....will see how things go.

I have to figure out how to get back into the groove of getting my walk AND the blog post in so I can share on time LOL

Week of Workouts

THURSDAY:  Burn Circuit 1
FRIDAY:  Yoga
SATURDAY:  Burn Intervals & Ab Burner
SUNDAY:  Burn It Off! & Recharge
MONDAY:  Due to this weird stomach/abdominal pain that woke me up about 4AM I made this a rest day and even stayed home from work.  This baby bird smacked into my bedroom window while I was resting in the morning, staying on the sill about 30 minutes.

TUESDAY:  Burn Circuit 2
WEDNESDAY:  Burn Circuit 3 in the morning and walking 2.2 miles during lunch.
THURSDAY:  Burn Circuit 1
FRIDAY:  Yoga from The Yoga Collective

My Second Race

Tomorrow is my second 5K - Brookside Bash Color Dash.  Scattered showers are in the forecast so we'll see how messy I get!  This is what I think I'm wearing...tank top over the shirt they provide.

Any tips for clean up afterwards, rain or shine?

Upcoming Surgery

April's TOM lasted about 10 days.  When I told the doctor about it he said again what it was they saw on my ultrasound last year the team - a cervical polyp.  So it looks like I need to have a hysteroscopy with polypectomy to remove it.  I've never had any surgery before and the only time I was knocked out was for an upper endoscopy.  You'd think I'd be worried about the procedure but I'm not; I'm just concerned about the cost.  I finally told Benny about it.  When he looked online about the procedure he was freaking out about the potential complications instead of the money.

I'm waiting for the doctor to get back with me how we're to schedule it for late September or October.  His nurse isn't sure because for whatever reason it's to be at Eskenazi Hospital instead of IU.  She doesn't know how things work over there.

My First Race Wrap Up

HAPPY APRIL FOOL'S DAY!

One more week to go until my next official weigh in!  I'm doing pretty good with this.  Yeah, some days I'm eating more than I probably should but it's all balancing out.  Now if only we could keep out the chaos it would be grand! LOL

My First Race

I had no idea how many people were there at the little community 5K.  It seemed crowded in the gym where we checked in but a much smaller crowd at the starting line.  Until I saw the results published I had no idea where I stood, not that it mattered anyway.

It was SOOO cold being only around 20F out but the sun was shining.  Someone said that last year it was sleeting during the race.  The sun was bright and I couldn't see where I was going so I just followed the orange cones to know which way to go LOL

It took me about 30 minutes to get halfway through and 20 more minutes to finished.  I was actually a little surprised that it took me under an hour to walk it.  After all I hadn't really walked since Halloween!

One thing I do want to say is if you bring your kids on a race YOU MUST HAVE SOMEONE WITH THEM AT ALL TIMES!  This poor little girl was cold and started crying as all her people had abandoned her.  I told the people at the checkpoint and they got ahold of someone to be with her.

Week of Workouts

So besides the race, what did I do this week?

Thursday I was off work to take Benny to see the ENT because it looks like he has another stone in his salivary gland.  UGH!  So I did a longer workout - 77 minutes of Kelly Coffey-Meyer's Muscle Definition Full Body Compilation.  NEVER again will I do weightlifting for that long!  I was worn out and had to use my other arm to help lift sometimes in the end.

Friday I rested to prep for the race.

Before the race I did a little yoga.

Austin pushed the button on my camera (still with the timer) so he photo bombed one picture LOL

Sunday I did the Muscle Definition Back & Chest Pre-Mix as Austin selected for me.

Monday I was tired so I rested again.

Yesterday I did Lift in Full Throttle Olympic Lifting (and am feeling it in my legs today LOL).

It was time for cardio today with Circuit Burn Cardio & Sculpting Pre-Mix.

Ginger Root

I started the 52 Week Be Better Challenge last week.  This week's challenge is to make something with ginger root.  I picked up a piece at Walmart yesterday so now I have to figure out what I will make.  What is your favorite thing to make with ginger root?

GoReIn2015 Q1 Update

I'm up a little this week but TOM is in town so it's to be expected.  Two weeks until I have my next official weigh in!

Week of Workouts

This week was ALL Kelly Coffey-Meyer's 30 Minutes to Fitness workouts.

Thursday I did Muscle Definition Workout 1.

Friday was the Train Like a Contender Conditioning workout.

Saturday I did the Muscle Definition Shoulders, Biceps, & Triceps pre-mix.

Monday was the Circuit Burn Total Circuit Burn Mix.

Yesterday was more Muscle Definition with the Back & Chest pre-mix, which I attempted the second round on the stability ball.

Today was the Circuit Burn Boxing & Legs pre-mix.

My First Race

Course Map found at http://englewoodcdc.com/race/

Saturday is the big day!  I wanted to walk this week but it's been so cold and rainy I just couldn't.  The weather for Saturday doesn't look promising temperature wise either.  Benny's been sick so I'm not asking him to sit out in the cold but maybe Austin will be there to cheer me on.  Nobody's contacted me yet so I guess I'm supposed to be there about 8:30....

GoReIn2015 Q1 Update

I listed my goals for 2015 in the last post of 2014.  It looks like I haven't made much progress this first quarter but I still have the rest of the year!

#9 I believe that improving my overall health and wellness includes testing my hormones.  My GYN doesn't seem to think that I have hormonal issues seeing that I have regular and "normal" menses.  Hormones are one area that can affect sleep and none of the doctors I saw and ran the sleep studies discussed this.  One of the BODYpeace babes suggested seeing a Functional Medicine doctor but they aren't fully covered by my insurance so that's not an option for me with our high deductible.  We'll see what happens at my annual visit on Tuesday.

#10 I've decided that BODYpeace is the primary theme of my personal development this year.  Before I started this journey I didn't care about my body or what I looked like.  Now that I've hit goal I'm struggling with acceptance, especially with the loose skin and lack of boobs (they just don't look like boobs anymore).  So I'm concentrating my efforts on this topic (BODYpeace not boobs in case you're confused LOL).

#11 I'm doing well on maintaining my weight.  I tend to step on the scale daily to see what it says before working out but forget what it says before I even leave for work.

How are you doing on your goals for the year?

My First Races

Last night was my first Lifetime weigh in.  I was up .8 lbs from 2 weeks ago but still in my lil window so I'm happy.  Now we'll see how I do after a month....

My First Races!

At the library Tuesday on the way to Weight Watchers I spotted this card.  I stuck it in my purse to look at it later.  Wednesday I looked up the races on Eventbrite and told Benny I wanted to walk them.  After all it's only about a mile longer than I walked almost every week to the farmer's market!  Thursday I signed up for the series!  Now, I wonder if I'll have anyone to walk with.....

Englewood Race for Roofs - March 28th

Brookside Bash Color Dash - May 16th (Benny's birthday)

Arsenal Tech 5K Run & Walk - September 19th

What did I get myself into? LOL

Week of Workouts

Thursday I did Stephanie Vitorino's Body Target 60.

Friday I did Jillian Michael's Shred-It with Weights Level 2.

Saturday was Jillian Michael's No More Trouble Zones.

Once I saw snow in the forecast I knew it'd be another shoveling day Sunday.  We had about 7 inches this time around and, just as I'd predicted, it took about 3 hours to do.  Austin didn't help but played outside (i.e. throwing snowballs at me, having me bury him in one of the piles, digging a tunnel in another pile, etc.).  Benny showed up for about the last hour.  He had to go back and fix what he did as he narrowed the driveway about 2ft on each side.  I need all the driveway I can get to back out each morning! LOL

Monday I was worn out from all that shoveling so I rested.

Yesterday I did Kelly Coffey-Meyer's 30 Minutes to Fitness Lift in Full Throttle Olympic Lifting.

Today I did the other workout on Kelly's DVD - Powersculpting.

Don't forget to sign up to guest post for the BODYpeace series!
